Is it even the Met Gala if there isn’t some kind of drama or viral moment that arises from the occasion?
Last year, an Italian model named Eugenio Casnighi went viral after his good looks stole the spotlight from Kylie Jenner and K-pop idol Jennie Kim. But unfortunately, this year, we won’t be seeing Eugenio on the red carpet after he was allegedly "fired" for being too distracting.
Italian Model Eugenio Casnighi Claims He Was Fired from the Met Gala for Standing Next to Kylie Jenner

The model went on Tiktok last May 4 to air his disappointment about not being able to attend the Met Gala this year. “I just got fired from the Met Gala,” he started, before sharing photos of him next to Kylie Jenner and Jennie Kim, the very photos that made him go viral. “Remember me?” He continued, “So I’ve never talked about this because I was under NDA. Funny enough, they fired me, so I can say whatever I want now.”
Eugenio has been working for the Met Gala since 2022 as a model and greeter. He was supposed to attend again this year, that is until he received the bad news. “It’s Friday and the Met Gala is on Monday, and they let me know today that they cut me off; they fired me because I went viral last year,” he said.
He continued to explain, “So basically they said, ‘You made it about yourself, so we can’t have you work there anymore, so I’m sorry.’”
According to him, he was assigned to escort Kylie Jenner and assist her with “whatever she needed.” He explained, “They literally told me we picked you because we like you more than other people to be with this celebrity, but when people took pictures of the actual celebrity, not me, of the actual celebrity like Kylie Jenner, and I was next to her, of course, I ended up in the picture and they blamed me,” he said.
A day later, he uploaded a second video revealing that he wasn’t the only model who was fired from attending the Met Gala this year. He also clarified that he was not hired by the Met, but rather by a company that was contracted to handle the staffing for the event and even provided screenshots of messages and emails to prove that what he was saying was real.
Despite not being able to attend the Met Gala this year, he did clarify that he doesn’t hold any ill will against the company or the event. “I’m disappointed. I’m not upset,” he said. “Like [do] you know how many castings I do and how many ‘no’s I receive. Oh my god, like, literally on a daily basis,” he explained, “So I’m not saying [what they did] was wrong, I’m saying the reason that they gave [for firing] me is so funny and I wanted to share that.”
Despite not being at the Met Gala this year, Eugenio is going viral once again after posting photos of himself at last year's event with a cheeky caption, saying, "Since they said I made it about myself [eyes emoji] here we go again [smiling with sweat emoji] last year. Enjoy the #metgala this year y’all." Netizens flooded his comments section with the funniest comments.
