Miss Earth 2024 was held at Okada Manila on November 9. The grand coronation saw 76 contestants vying for the coveted title while each carrying their advocacies for a better and greener planet.
While all the girls looked stunning on stage, the event itself was plagued with production issues, much to the disappointment of pageant fans.
Miss Earth 2024 drew mixed reactions from viewers
Many at-home watchers of the show pointed out the poorly lit stage, while others found it off-putting to see tribal-dressed performers dancing to upbeat pop music. “Heritage ang tema, tapos ang music ng tribal dancers nyo ay upbeat?” questioned one X user.

A major mishap and cause of amusement involved the appearance of video editing software CapCut’s logo on screen instead of the intended scenic backdrops usually seen behind the girls. One confused netizen commented, “Bakit ’yung backdrop sa miss earth may Capcut? Papansin naman…”

While critics had a lot to say about the overall arrangement of the show, there remained those who came to its defense. “Miss Earth promotes sustainability, so don’t expect that they will provide more LEDs and lights. Less lights and less usage of energy means they love mother earth,” read one Facebook comment.

Blunders aside, Miss Earth remained true to its thrust of placing environmental awareness at the center of its show. In particular, viewers appreciated the lack of brand advertisements during breaks. In place of the usual commercial spots were educational videos of each contestant speaking about their journey and their individual advocacies.
“Can we just appreciate that Miss Earth doesn’t need to show any ads or sponsors during break but instead showcase and inform the audience about [the] environment,” pointed out one user.

However the show turned out, there’s no denying that Filipinos can infuse a touch of humor to everything. An X user joked that CapCut might as well have been part of the pageant’s sponsors with the amount of screen time it got. Another person suggested having the event in the morning instead next year for better lighting. LOL!

By the event's conclusion, Miss Australia Jessica Lane was crowned Miss Earth 2024. The Philippines' bet, Irha Mel Alfeche, made it until the Top 12 of the pageant.
