IG reels are in and it's time to get behind them!

If you’re an Instagram lurker, you’ve probably noticed that your feed has been awfully keen on showing Reels lately. The algorithm has made it very clear that short videos are in, even introducing the Reels-only feed option. With that, it’s high time to spice up your content with a cool Reel or two. Don’t be intimidated; making a short video is surprisingly easy, especially if you have a few pegs in mind. We’re here to show you some inspiration to get your Instagram Reels game going, starting with a few ideas for when you’re at the beach.

Here are Instagram Reel ideas for your next beach trip, as shown by influencers:

1. An OOTD in Motion

Come to think of it, Instagram Reels are just your regular photos captured in motion—keep this in mind the next time you’re taking your beachside OOTD. Instead of posing for the shot, move around for it: walk into the sea, towards the camera, or play with any accessory you have on. Then, compile all the clips together for a simple OOTD in motion.

2. Get the shot

The next time you’re taking an Instagram photo, take some BTS, too, and combine them into a short Reel like this one by Verniece Enciso. It’s endearing in how it shows the raw (often messy) process of getting a shot that you don’t expect when you see the perfect-looking outcome. Start with a few clips of yourself attempting to get the shot and end with a few slides of the final photos.

3. One-Shot Walk-In

Here’s an easy idea that involves just one long shot. Start with a view, preferably a sight that’s scenic enough to hold its own, then slowly walk in. Then, take some time to look around and soak in the view—the smallest of actions are more than enough. When editing, add in some calming music, et voila! A stunning piece of content.

4. ASMR

We love a good ASMR moment, and the beach is the perfect place to take a good one for an Instagram Reel. Take a clip or two of the waves crashing on the shore (take your cue from Kimi Juan and do it during sunset). When editing, you can opt to put a sound or not, just be sure to dial up the volume of the waves for a truly palpable seaside feel.

5. GRWM (Get Ready with Me)

This Reel idea lets you do most of the filming at the comfort of your own room! Take clips of yourself getting ready for the beach, from your skincare routine to the process of putting together an outfit, and finish off posing with the full look.

6. Walk on By

Possibly one of our favorite things about Instagram Reels is how it lets you play with transitions. This video by Kally Araneta shows her walking through her beach trip, from the airport to the final destination. You can go the extra mile and do more clips against different scenes, say, charming hotel lobbies, small neighborhood cafes, sunsets by the shore, and more!

7. Slow Motion Dive

Make use of all the GoPro footage you have lying around and create something as mesmerizing as this. Cha Ocampo puts together a compilation of underwater diving scenes and edits them in slow motion. When combined with serene music, it makes something beautifully hypnotic.

8. Compilation of Scenes

If you want to make a Reel that focuses more on the sights around you, try this. Compile footage of where you’re staying and put them all together. For a strong opening scene, make like Chelsea Robato and start with a clip of yourself walking towards a grand seaside view.
