Before we knew the "Spotified" world we live in today, listening to our favorite songs usually entailed turning on our TVs and tuning into Myx. Since the early 2000s, you could find the most in-demand music videos streamed on the channel, complete with karaoke-style lyrics at the bottom of the screen.
Aside from the hottest tracks, Myx has also introduced us to some of the most endearing video jockeys to usher in song after song. Years later, we've met dozens of faces on our jamming sessions with the music channel. Below, we list down some of the most memorable ones to have passed through our screens.
7 Myx VJs and Where They Are Now
1. Luis Manzano
Emcee extraordinaire Luis Manzano can proudly dub himself as one of the longest-serving VJs on the music channel. Alongside his hosting duties, he also appeared in blockbuster films and TV shows such as In My Life, Dyosa, and Crazy for You. After leaving Myx in 2013, he continued to get on the mic for variety shows like Your Face Sounds Familiar, The Voice, and Minute to Win It. Last month, he just announced that he and his wife, Jessy Mendiola, are eagerly anticipating their first child together.
2. Iya Villania
Right by Luis' side on those 11 years of VJ-ing was Iya Villania. She debuted in the industry via the 2004 film A Beautiful Life, and was also a cast member in the teen-oriented series Click. Her hosting career continued to flourish with gigs in shows like Umagang Kay Ganda, Taste Buddies, and Mars Pa More, the latter of which is currently airing. Outside of her career, she's a doting mom of four and a wife to fellow TV host Drew Arellano.
3. Geoff Eigenmann
Coming from a powerhouse family in show biz, Geoff Eigenmann decided to carve his own path by pursuing hosting through Myx. He's built quite the resume of titles throughout his career, finding work from both ABS-CBN and GMA. You might recall his bits in shows like Lobo, Magic Palayok, Dangwa, and more.
4. Heart Evangelista
A fashionable muse adored across the globe, one of Heart Evangelista's first ventures into stardom was being a VJ on Myx. After sprouting from her lead role in G-mik, she enjoyed an on-screen career with projects like Sosy Problems, Luna Mystika, and I Left My Heart in Sorsogon, cementing her stamp in the industry. Nowadays, the 37-year-old is busy sitting front row at fashion week runways and building her stylish empire, one OOTD at the time.
5. Nikki Gil
One personality we've been missing is Nikki Gil. Right beside her VJ stint on Myx, which she did from 2005 to 2016, she dipped her toes into performing in theater, acting in teleseryes, and even releasing her own music (she sang on the OST of High School Musical, FYI). Nikki has since retired from show business, choosing to focus on being a family woman, raising her kids with businessman BJ Albert.
6. Jett Pangan
As the lead guitarist of OPM rock band The Dawn, Jett Pangan knows a thing or two about good music; which is why it made sense for him to become a Myx VJ back in the aughts. Not one to be a one-trick pony, he also starred in a couple of musical theater productions, which included the 2019 international run of Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street.
7. Karel Marquez
Rounding out this group of OGs is Karel Marquez, who was a mainstay on Myx from 2003 to 2007. She's since delved into an acting career, playing supporting characters in shows like My Husband's Lover and La Luna Sanggre. Presently, she's self-managed, and works as an entrepreneur on the side.
