Exactly a year after bringing home the Philippines' first ever gold medal at the Olympics, Hidilyn Diaz celebrates yet another milestone: She just got married! At a scenic ceremony held at the City of Pines, the trailblazer said her sweet "I do" to her coach-trainer Julius Naranjo.
The two enjoyed a seven-month long engagement, which kicked off when Julius popped the question with a stunning gold barbell-themed engagement ring. Their love for weightlifting seems to translate to their love for one another, since the iconic barbell once again made a cameo at their nuptials.
The Real Meaning of Hidilyn Diaz's Wedding Flowers
The only accoutrement that could complement Hidilyn's exquisite Francis Libiran gown was an equally-as-stunning bouquet of flowers. In charge of this was florist-to-the-stars Gideon Hermosa. In an exclusive interview, he tells Preview that he, "was inspired with Hidilyn's victory. I had this idea to create a double-cascading bouquet with a gold handle she can carry, a sort of symbolism of the barbell she lifts on the platform."
The gold handle, which seamlessly went with the bride's jewelry, had bundles of delicate white orchids hanging from both sides. According to Gideon, these flowers represent how "strength and femininity goes hand in hand." As Hidilyn made her down the aisle, she was clutching what was possibly the lightest yet most meaningful barbell in her life. Gideon says he loved the outcome of what he designed, adding that it's "a first in my years of designing bouquets."
