Heaven Peralejo recenly took to Instagram to share barefaced selfies, which she captioned as "a daily reminder that having acne is nothing to be ashamed of!"
The actress went on to share that her struggle with acne has always been a longstanding battle, so much so that it even affected her weight at some point. "I was so scared to be judged especially in the industry I’m part of. And then I realized that the problem is with those people who criticize you for being human," she continued.
Wrapping up her post, she says: "I am aware of my flaws and I embrace them. Never let anyone make you feel bad about yourself because of normal things! Love yourself and take care of yourself."
A number of fans quickly showered her with support, sharing that they relate with her struggles. Although, there was also a significant amount of netizens who called her out, saying that the "acne" in question wasn't visible at all.
Others went on more in-depth tirades, claiming that the post was just a way for her to flaunt her body. One user even found the post "insulting," accusing her of "toxic positivity."
In response, Heaven pointed out that each person has different experiences with acne, and that "it’s just so unreasonable to make someone feel bad about something they’re already insecure about."
"Believe me, I’ve experienced worse but I never had the confidence to accept it not until now," she went on. "I don’t even know why I have to explain myself but it’s just so ridiculous that even the size of my acne is being bashed by some."
True enough, each person's experience with pimples does vary depending on their skin type and lifestyle, so it's never fair to invalidate one's own struggles against acne. Any post that aims to normalize breakouts, no matter their size, is a win in our eyes.
