The Korean entertainment industry knows a thing or two about thrillers, and their newest offering, The Frog, is hard proof. The eight-episode mini-series is the latest contribution of South Korea to the world of blood-curdling dramas, and as its viewers have come to know, it isn’t merely the plot that makes these stories effective–it’s also the work of impressive performances and stellar acting chops.
In The Frog’s case, the star that rose to the occasion is Go Min Si, the actress last seen in Sweet Home. Her new Netflix K-drama sees the 29-year-old go beyond her comfort zone as the psychopathic Yoo Seung A, who breaks the peace of the tranquil vacation home and its inhabitants.
What Is Netflix's “The Frog” About?
In the present day, Jeon Yeong Ha (Kim Yun Seok) leads a quiet life running a secluded vacation cottage deep in the woods. However, his tranquility is disrupted by the unexpected arrival of a mysterious woman, Yoo Seong A (Go Min Si).
Flashback to the early 2000s, Koo Sang-Jun (Yoon Kye Sang) managed the same cottage with his family. During one fateful summer, a tragic event occurred that cost Koo Sang-Jun everything. At that time, Yoon Bo-Min (Lee Jung Eun) was a police officer stationed at the nearest substation to the cottage.
Now, two decades later, Yoon Bo-Min has returned to the same substation, this time as the chief. With a keen interest in solving mysteries, she starts paying close attention to Jeon Yeong-Ha and the events unfolding around him.

Go Min Si’s Physical Transformation for “The Frog”
To portray Yoo Seung A, actress Go Min Si went beyond learning her lines by embodying the character’s physicality. In an interview, the actress revealed that the actress had shed some pounds for the role.
“I lost a lot of weight—down to my lowest weight of 43kg. During the filming of Sweet Home, I weighed 46kg, but I lost even more for this role. I wanted my spine to be more visible, giving off a raw, animalistic vibe. I hoped that feeling would come across and wanted to appear eerie,” she said, as translated by KBIZoom.

Aside from her weight, Min Si also experimented with other aspects of her appearance. “Since the character needed to appear attractively beautiful, I had to put a lot of thought into it. I tried blunt bob hairstyles, added waves and carefully considered the costumes. I tested various looks and selected outfits that matched the background colors we were shooting against.”
To maintain the originality of her performance, Min Si even steered away from watching similar genres or characters. Instead, she opted to watch other genres, immersing herself solely in the script of the series. “I felt a thrill every time my new and diverse looks were captured on camera. This was the first time I intentionally dressed up for a role. It was both new and fun. The challenges were enjoyable.”
Netizens React to Go Min Si’s Performance in “The Frog”
Min Si’s efforts were worth it in the end, as many viewers across the web lauded her performance in The Frog.
Netizens were praising her spine-tingling acting skills, which translated well into Yoo Seung A.

Others chimed in, calling her performance an “acting masterclass.”

Several expected accolades to pile up on her shelves once award season arrives.
