In a generous effort to engage the millions currently on lockdown, both local and international musicians have logged on to online platforms to share their music, from the confines of their respective homes. Needless to say, a host of concerts and highly-anticipated events (e.g. the Met Gala, Glastonbury Music Festival, and the 2020 Eurovision songwriting contest, among others) have been either cancelled or postponed due to COVID-19. However, that didn't spell a complete shutdown of moments for music appreciation (thank goodness!).
In a similar fashion to the tagging challenges circulating on Instagram, some musicians have even taken to calling on their peers, challenging them to do online mini concerts, too. Case in point: Rob Thomas of Matchbox 20:
National Artist for Music Ryan Cayabyab has even launched a fundraising concert series, Bayanihan Musikahan, and a host of Philippine musicians have already pledged to contribute, including Juan Karlos, Chito Miranda, Noel Cabangon, and Christian Bautista, among others.
On the international front, Erykah Badu, Shawn Mendes, Jhené Aiko, and Lauren Jauregui are likely to soon jump on the bandwagon too. That's something to look forward to!
