They’re Kathryn Bernardo-approved!

If you’re perpetually online like many of us, you’ve probably seen a video of someone breaking open a large chocolate bar to reveal a gooey green center. Your immediate thoughts might have been: “What is that?” followed by “I need to try it.”

These massive chocolate bars filled with pistachio are known as knafeh chocolate bars. Videos of content creators showcasing the satisfying snap and ooze of these knafeh bars began to make rounds on Instagram and TikTok since mid to late April. Branded as "Can't Get Knafeh Of It," they've become so viral and sought-after that even Filipina actress Kathryn Bernardo was spotted enjoying them with her niece Lhexine in a now-expired Instagram story.

What is Knafeh?

Knafeh is a beloved Middle Eastern dessert traditionally made of spun pastry and often combined with pistachios. Pistachios are a staple in many Arab desserts like knafeh and baklava. These viral knafeh chocolate bars draw inspiration from the original pastry, omitting the cheese but retaining a thick, luscious green knafeh mixture made of pistachios and tahini (a ground sesame butter or paste), all enveloped in a milk chocolate shell.

Where can you buy Knafeh Chocolate Bars?

Currently, the OG Knafeh Chocolate Bars are available only in Dubai from Fix Dessert Chocolatier, which you can find on Instagram. They have other offerings too aside from the famed "Can't Get Knafeh Of It," such as "Baklawa II The Future," "Cereously Chewsy," "Mind Your Own Buiscoff," "Butter To Be Safe Than Salty," and "Pick Up A Pretzel," which cost AED68.25 each or roughly P1,085.

If you’re not in Dubai, you might consider pasabuy, which is what streamer-turned-TV-personality Christine Samson did, but be prepared to pay a premium, which could entail reaching double the price of the original. Fix Dessert Chocolatier has also warned that they do not have any authorized resellers outside of the city and their chocolate bars only have a three-day shelf life.

Another alternative is to DIY the knafeh bars. Many TikTok users have been baking their own versions and sharing recipes online, so you can try making your own, too. Additionally, some local shops are also selling their takes on the knafeh chocolate bar, such as Bueno Barks.
