Out of the K-drama offerings the year 2022 served, Extraordinary Attorney Woo remains in our highlight reel. Led by Park Eun Bin as the titular character, the drama stirred the emotions of viewers for its depiction of a genius lawyer on the autism spectrum. It soon landed on the ninth spot of the highest-rated dramas of all time, so it isn't much of a surprise that the public is clamoring for a second season. Fortunately, good news is on their horizon—even though it’ll take a bit of time.
Is “Extraordinary Attorney Woo” Season 2 officially confirmed?
Yes! News of a follow-up to the series’ successful debut season first came up last year, when Lee Sang Baek—the CEO of ASTORY, the production company behind the show—expressed their interest in producing Atty. Woo Young Woo’s next story. A confirmation hadn’t been set in stone, until a recent report in June 2023.
On June 9, Korean network JTBC News reported that the Extraordinary Attorney Woo writer Moon Ji Won had already signed a contract to write the series’ second season, which was later officially confirmed by ASTORY.
When is the release date of “Extraordinary Attorney Woo” Season 2?
The production is currently in its early stages, so there’s no word yet on a final release date. In a 2022 interview with South Korean media outlets, ASTORY CEO Lee mentioned that the goal was to air the second season sometime in 2024.
Recent developments also stated that Moon Ji Won has commitments prior to Attorney Woo, as she’ll be making her directorial debut with the film Deaf Boys, which is set to film in 2024.
“Because Moon Ji Won is currently busy with the preparations for her film, she will not be able to write the script right away,” ASTORY said. “We think she will be able to start preparing the script in earnest after she wraps up her film at the beginning of next year.”
Will the original cast return for season 2?
The TV dynamic of Eun Bin and Kang Tae Oh (who portrayed Lee Jun-ho) was a subject of praise for Attorney Woo regulars, so naturally, the question of their reprisal is at the top of the list. However, according to the latest announcement of ASTORY, the two actors and the rest of the cast have yet to be officially signed.
Fans are expecting the return of the on-screen couple, following Eun Bin earning her much-deserved accolades for the role, bagging the Grand Prize at the 2023 Baeksang Arts Awards. Meanwhile, the actress’ counterpart, Tae Oh, is currently serving his mandatory military service. He’s expected to be discharged in March 2024, so we’re crossing our fingers we get a reunion soon.
Extraordinary Attorney Woo Season 1 is streaming on Netflix.
