Philippine television isn’t a stranger to adaptations and action-packed dramas. But every so often, a new show enters the scene with the potential to topple what we’ve been used to. With the local industry’s much-dubbed renaissance, all eyes are now on ABS-CBN’s FPJ’s Batang Quiapo.
Led by Coco Martin fresh off of FPJ's Ang Probinsyano, the Fernando Poe Jr. adaptation takes on the well-known Filipino action formula for the newer lens. It also can’t be left unsaid that the show's start peaked at a whopping 341,509 concurrent viewers online, garnering several raved reviews for the acting chops of Miles Ocampo and Lovi Poe.
What Is “Batang Quiapo” About?
The ABS-CBN series is based on the 1986 film of the same name, top-billed by the iconic Filipino king of action alongside screen partner Maricel Soriano. In the 2023 version, Coco Martin takes on FPJ’s role, although with an updated take. The actor portrays Tanggol Dimaguiba, a notorious outlaw navigating the streets of Quiapo who is oblivious to his true identity.
On his way to discovery and redemption, he meets the likes of Lovi Poe’s Mokang and a colorful cast of characters played by industry vets Christopher de Leon, Cherry Pie Picache, Charo Santos, Lito Lapid, and more.

FPJ’s Batang Quiapo is currently airing every weeknight at 8 p.m. on Kapamilya Channel, Cinemo, A2Z, and TV5. Those who’d rather stream it, however, can tune in online through several ways.
