Kevin Kwan, the author of the book turned award-winning movie Crazy Rich Asians, is coming out with a TV show, and it looks like it just found its lead. Announced a few days ago, newcomer Max Willems is set to play the titular role for Emperor of Malibu.
Preview first learned that Kevin and co-writer David Sangalli were working on the show two years ago, when the writers themselves attended the Preview Girls Book Club for Crazy Rich Asians. The romantic-comedy series will follow "Auggie (Max), an environmental lawyer and son of a Chinese tech billionaire who announces his engagement to an American woman—and is terrified of how his parents will react to the news.”
A fresh new face from Thailand, it looks like Max has all the makings to become the internet's newest boyfriend if the show's network, CBS, picks up the pilot for a full series. Max will be joining the The Hangvover star and comedian Ken Jeong, and Tony award-winner Deborah S. Craig, who are both set to play his wealthy billionaire parents.
Fingers crossed Kevin's new exciting venture on the silver screen bears fruit for more accurate quality Asian representation in Hollywood.
