Diamond Hotel is currently under fire after allegedly body-shaming a female student applying for an internship or on-the-job training (OJT) at their establishment.
According to the complainant, the manager had called his girlfriend “gasul,” a Filipino slang term with a negative connotation used to describe a person with a bigger build.

Netizen Carlo Macuja Tandico posted his complaint on Facebook last February 24, 2024.
He began, “Unprofessional and body shamer yung mga managers and Human Resource niyo!”

According to Carlo, his girlfriend had been looking for a three to five-star hotel to complete her internship or on-the-job training in compliance with school requirements. She had been going around Metro Manila and Tagaytay in search of opportunities for two consecutive weeks, during which she received a text message from Diamond Hotel for an interview.
The couple was admittedly excited as this would help the young woman actualize her dream of finishing college, but their eagerness quickly turned into disappointment. Not only because she wasn’t accepted, but the managers had allegedly body-shamed her in the interview process.
“She went [to the interview] last Thursday and spoke with one of your managers and she was called ‘gasul’ kasi daw, ‘Maliit ka na nga, mataba pa.’ [The] manager added, ‘That’s true! Magreduce ka!’” He explained in his post.
He added, “I can see the frustration and disappointment on her face, how she was sad and [unmotivated] that day. Worst? CRYING.”
“We get the point, you have requirements, physically. But the way your managers act and speak? TOTALLY UNNACCEPTABLE and UNPROFESSIONAL!” He exclaimed.
The netizen then warned other students who had planned to do their internship or OJT at the hotel. He concluded his post by saying, “I’m calling you out, Diamond Hotel! I don’t want others to feel what my girlfriend had experienced. She [deserves] an apology. Hence, this shouldn’t be normalized.”
