Authorities recently seized a truckload of counterfeit clothes, mostly jeans and shirts, in Misamis Oriental, the Bureau of Customs (BOC) said Thursday, March 23.
Customs said the shipment was declared as garments from Bangladesh and had an estimated value of P48.9 million.
“These counterfeit products do not have the required documentation, and they endanger the safety of those who use them,” said Customs Commissioner Bienvenido Rubio in a statement.
The shipment, which had 288 cartons of pants branded as "Zara" and 342 cartons of shirts branded as "Guess," was intercepted by the BOC Port of Cagayan de Oro (CDO) at the Sub-Port of Mindanao Container Terminal, Tagoloan in Misamis Oriental last month, the statement added.
Importing or peddling counterfeit products is a violation of RA 8293 of the Intellectual Property Code of the Philippines. Fake products also do not exhibit the quality and durability of its original counterparts.
The public is also encouraged against purchasing or supporting counterfeit goods, Customs added.
