Every mother is familiar with the struggle of breastfeeding her child. While movies make it out to be a simple task, reality begs to differ. It takes a lot of work, typically mixed in with frustrated tears and sleepless nights, before you and your baby finally get the groove of things. There's no denying how breastfeeding is also often stigmatized. That said, Coleen Garcia is here to normalize breastfeeding, recently opening up about her breastfeeding experience with her son Amari and how it has empowered her to be more comfortable in her own skin.
LOOK: Coleen Garcia Embraces Her Body Through Breastfeeding
In a vlog uploaded on Karen Davila’s Youtube channel, the news anchor visited the actress and celebrity mom’s home where the duo conversed about how the older generation is more clandestine about breastfeeding—keeping the act more conservative and not being able to talk about it openly. It’s in contrast to the younger generation like Coleen, who chooses to proudly share snaps of her breastfeeding moments on Instagram. “I really want to normalize it,” she says.
“Especially ako in my career, there were so many times where I had to show my body [or] I've had to wear bikinis,” Coleen shares, noting how being an actress and a model sometimes means she has to sport particular looks that displays her figure in a certain light. “Although as much as possible during that phase in my life, I try to avoid doing it for men because I wanted to do it for other women or for myself.”
Through being open about breastfeeding Amari, Coleen allows others to see that a woman’s body comes in a myriad of forms and functions—and one of those is a mother being able to nourish her son. “So this [breastfeeding] is just another phase in my life where I'm trying to embrace my body as well.” Hear, hear, Coleen!
As seen on her social media, the celeb mom’s funny yet genuine posts about her breastfeeding journey prove that there’s no reason why such a natural act should be kept hush-hush:
"Part-time human, full-time baby buffet," the actress humorously captioned her post.

She also once posted a photo of her on the paddle board while breastfeeding. She wrote, "It was my first time on the paddle board, and I was finally having some nice alone time, until the little guy spotted me while he was playing in the water. It was nice while it lasted. #strikeanywhere #asinanywhere"
