The crossover we never knew we needed!

Not over the Barbenheimer high? Here’s something to fuel that even more: Oppenheimer star Cillian Murphy said he would be open to playing Ken in a potential Barbie sequel.

This was confirmed when an interviewer from Omelete poked fun at a hopeful crossover between the two box office hits with a very important question: If Greta Gerwig calls someday, would you be open to playing a Ken? Murphy said with a laugh: “Would I play a Ken in Barbie 2? Sure, yeah. Let’s read the script, let’s have a conversation.”

If Ryan Gosling is Beach Ken, we can only imagine what kind of Ken Murphy would be. Whatever the role, he’s got the blue eyes for it!

The rest of the Oppenheimer cast was asked the same question, with Emily Blunt replying enthusiastically: "Please! I'd do anything with Greta Gerwig." Meanwhile, Matt Damon admitted he probably can’t out-Ken Gosling: “I don’t know if anyone can.”

Will Cillian Murphy get the chance to play Ken?

Knowing Barbie director Greta Gerwig, this could be a possibility at the very least. She did reportedly cast Sex Education’s Emma Mackey in her pink movie for the main purpose of making a look-a-like joke with Margot Robbie (which was unfortunately cut from the script after realizing that they don't actually look that similiar).

There’s no definitive word whether Barbie will get a sequel, but Margot did not close the door on this possibility.

“I think you fall into a bit of a trap if you try and set up a first movie whilst also planning for sequels,” Robbie told Time last month. “It could go a million different directions from this point.”

One thing is for sure: toy company Mattel is working on producing more toy-inspired films from the brand, which could see Hot Wheels, Polly Pocket, and even UNO on the big screen.

When Barbie and Oppenheimer were first announced to have the same release date, no one expected that both movies would end up being positively correlated.

Although Barbie takes the box office crown over Oppenheimer, the latter was in no means a loser. Oppenheimer grossed P57.75 million in the five days since its release in the Philippines, P19 million of which was only from nine IMAX screens.
