With the likes of Mario Maurer and Win Metawin, the Philippines isn’t immune to the effect of Thai’s booming TV industry. But out of our well-loved dramas also comes Thailand’s critically acclaimed films, with top-notch actors and actresses getting their deserved flowers. Case in point: Model-slash-actress Chutimon Chuengcharoensukying.
After winning over audiences in Bad Genius and Thank You For Sharing, the Thai celeb’s star isn’t fading away anytime soon. Get to know Chutimon with this quick cheat sheet–you might just be her next fan!
1. Chutimon Chuengcharoensukying is an Aquarius.
The model and actress was born in Bangkok, Thailand on February 2, 1996.
2. Chutimon Chuengcharoensukying’s nickname is Aokbab.
Chutimon’s friends, family, and fans call her “Aokbab,” which is literally “design” in Thai.
3. Chutimon Chuengcharoensukying is a Fine Arts student.
Keeping true to her nickname, the Thai actress is an artist in more ways than one, as she also studies fine arts at Bangkok’s prestigious Chulalongkorn University. It’s the oldest institute of higher education in Thailand, and ranked as the country’s top university across many surveys and rankings. Among its notable alumni include Thai royalty, politicians, and several award-winning authors and athletes.
4. Chutimon Chuengcharoensukying began modeling at the age of 15.
Before she made her way onto the silver screen, Chutimon posed for magazines and walked the runways as a model. She made her modeling debut at 15, and later on became the first Thai model to feature in Harper’s Bazaar UK. You can spot her in the October 2013 issue in a fashion editorial titled “Shadow of the Jade Empire.”
Nowadays, Chutimon still holds a hefty portfolio as a fashion model on the side, posing for brands like Tom Ford, Orla Kiely, and Asava.
5. Chutimon Chuengcharoensukying’s debut feature film role received rave reviews.
The Thai actress’ claim to fame is 2017’s Bad Genius, a film that earned box office distinction beyond Thailand, including Hong Kong, Cambodia, Malaysia, Taiwan, China, and yes, even the Philippines.
Chutimon took on the character of Lynn, a straight-A student who concocts an exam-cheating scheme, as inspired by real-life events. The role earned her the Screen International Rising Star Asia Award at the New York Asian Film Festival, making her the first Thai actress to win the award.
6. Chutimon Chuengcharoensukying starred alongside Mario Maurer in a TV series.
In 2022, Chutimon starred in the romance drama Bad Romeo, led by Thai-Norwegian actress Urassaya Sperbund and top leading man Mario Maurer, who previously portrayed Marcus in the Filipino film Suddenly It's Magic.
Chutimon joins the rest of the cast as Lita, one character in a story involving a hotel tycoon’s daughter and a mysterious car mechanic.
7. Chutimon Chuengcharoensukying trained at a famous restaurant to prepare for her role in “Hunger.”
The 2023 Netflix original film Hunger has quickly risen in the streaming site’s charts, including the Philippines. Chutimon portrays Aoy, a skilled cook who runs her family’s stir-fried noodles restaurant at the old town of Bangkok. One day, a scout stumbles upon Aoy, handing her an invitation to train under a notoriously ruthless chef.
The film had to depict Aoy expertly assembling dishes in naked flames, something that Chutimon previously didn’t have any experience with. To prep for the role, Chutimon channeled her inner Aoy and practiced at Bangkok’s famous Lert Tip restaurant under the supervision of its resident chef Gigg.
In an interview, Chutimon revealed: “Chinese people cook with strong heat, and they have to avoid the flames, too. I couldn’t because I was very scared, so Chef Gigg had to literally pull me out of the fire’s reach. I managed to [fit this role] only by bringing Aoy out, as she’s a lot tougher than I am.”
8. Chutimon Chuengcharoensukying starred in several music videos.

9. Chutimon Chuengcharoensukying dreams of taking part in Hollywood films.
Since Bad Genius and the critically acclaimed Thank You For Sharing, Chutimon has generated some buzz outside of her country. Her next step is naturally one of the world’s biggest movie markets: Hollywood.
In previous interviews, Chutimon made her Hollywood aspirations crystal clear, saying that she could “see Hollywood in [her] future.” The actress also mentioned that her “greatest hope” is to be like Hollywood actors, in the sense that they get to explore “all these crazy characters.”
“I really want to play those roles. When you watch their movies, you are almost convinced that they’re actually mad. I want to play that kind of characters, and I want to be as good as the Hollywood actors [in those parts]. That is my ultimate goal as an actress,” she said.
