If you’re one of the many viewers who binge-watched XO, Kitty in one sitting, good news: The show has officially been renewed for season two. And with a new installment comes the awaited answers to several cliffhangers, one of which includes Dae’s (Choi Min Young) unresolved conflicts.
As a student of the Korean Independent School of Seoul (K.I.S.S.), Dae was met with his own tangled web of storylines in XO, Kitty’s first season. His pen-pal girlfriend Kitty (Anna Cathcart) flew all the way to Seoul to surprise him, only to find his reluctant fake relationship with the campus’ popular gal Yuri (Gia Kim). But as anyone who watched the show knows, not everything is what it seems—cue the chaos.

Alongside Kitty, Dae is one of the few characters who viewers have spotted in the previous To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before movies. The universe soon widened with XO, Kitty, where K.I.S.S.’s colorful cast of characters is introduced.
But despite this, actor Min Young has his own considerations on why Dae stands out among the flock. “Dae is not the most charming or the richest guy in school,” he told Preview during an exclusive one-on-one interview. “But what I really loved about Dae was that he was sincere about everyone and his love. Sincerity was the only way that he tried to earn someone's heart. It might be not the most special charming point [compared to everyone], but for me, that was the most powerful point about Dae.”
While we got a taste of a seemingly happily-ever-after for Kitty and Dae in season one, the young couple’s relationship soon swerved onto the rocks when new potential love interests appeared on Kitty’s horizon. And if K-dramas have love triangles, XO, Kitty has a “love trapezoid” (in Anna Cathcart’s words!), as fans are now split into Team Dae, Team Yuri, and Team Min-ho (played by Sang Heon Lee).
With new love lines out in the open, what makes Team Dae so compelling for some viewers? “The reason why Dae loved Kitty was [because] they had a lot in common,” Min Young shared. “One of the biggest things was that they both knew how important love is and why it's important in our lives. They both think that love is almost the only reason why we live.”
At the end of season one, Kitty and Dae part ways in a bittersweet breakup at the airport. With a dramatic kiss on par with its rom-com and K-drama predecessors, the grand gesture feels like a definitive cap-off to their relationship. But will they reunite in the future, especially with season two’s confirmation?
While Min Young explained that he isn’t looking forward to anything specific when it comes to the couple, anything can still happen in the world of XO, Kitty. “I think every possibility is open,” he said.
