If you're a foodie who's always on the lookout for the best eats around the world, then you may have heard about or even tried the famous bakery in Los Angeles called Porto's. They're known for their wide variety of baked goods ranging from pastries to sandwiches, but their cheese rolls are undoubtedly one of the most loved by customers.
People from different states travel all the way to LA just to try their cheese rolls. And thankfully, you won't have to book a flight out of the country anymore to satisfy your craving. We know a bakery that sells strikingly similar-tasting cheese rolls than the one at Porto's, and they’re located right here in the Philippines—we’re talking about Cheese Rolls by Miss J.
Here’s Why Cheese Rolls by Miss J Are a Must-Try
When Pinoys think of cheese rolls, most of us probably expect those pandesal-like breads covered in sugar and with barely any cheese stuffed in them. But Cheese Rolls by Miss J is not your ordinary Pinoy cheese roll. For only P275, you get a box of six Original Cheese Rolls that are soft, flaky, sweet, and oh-so addicting. Each cheese roll is about the size of your hand and is generously filled with cheese.
If that’s already got your mouth watering, wait until you try their other flavors such as the Belgian Chocolate Cheese Rolls, Cinnamon Cheese Rolls, and Blueberry Cheese Rolls. If you find yourself near their Molito Lifestyle Center, Alabang branch, you're in for a special treat. They serve Cookie Butter Cheese Rolls and Tropical Guava Cheese Rolls exclusively at that location. It's a flavor explosion you won't want to miss.
For a box of six of the special flavors, like the ones we just mentioned, it'll cost you P375. But if you're looking to stock up on cheesy goodness, go for the box of 12, which goes for P595. And for the Original Cheese Rolls, a box of six will set you back P275, while a box of 12 is a steal at P495. With prices like these, you can satisfy your cravings without breaking the bank.
Cheese Rolls by Miss J offers both in-store purchases and convenient online ordering through their website. Follow them on their social media pages to stay up to date with limited-time offers and flavors.
The Woman Behind Cheese Rolls by Miss J
Jenelle Pernia, Miss J herself, has always enjoyed cooking and baking, especially for her friends and family. According to her it stems from her love to socialize and be around people and it's that very love that motivated her to start her business mid-pandemic.
“The pandemic really forced us to stay within the confines of our home, and not see our friends and extended family. [The business] kept the kids occupied and entertained since they love being in the kitchen. It also in a way gave me an additional sense of purpose through keeping in contact with friends while in the R&D stage since they were mostly my taste-testers, if you may, and getting the chance to keep in touch through food,” she said.
From humble beginnings in her home kitchen to the grand opening of her first branch at the Molito Lifestyle Center, Alabang, Cheese Rolls by Miss J has certainly come a long way. “It will sound super-cliché, but my cheese rolls really come from the heart and our home. It was born from blood, sweat, and tears, and a lot of learning during a difficult time for everyone,” said Jenelle.
Cheese Rolls by Miss J is located at Molito Lifestyle Center, Alabang, Muntinlupa. They’re open Monday to Thursday from 9 A.M. to 9 P.M. and Friday to Sunday from 9 A.M. to 10 P.M.
