Ask any K-drama fan who their favorite leading men are, and Cha Eun Woo's name will most likely rise to the top. His acting career can be traced all the way back to 2014 when he played a minor supporting role in the Song Hye Kyo-helmed film My Brilliant Life. That little cameo inadvertently led him into becoming a Hallyu star in his own right.
His filmography is composed primarily of rom-coms, occasionally incorporated with hints of fantasy and even music—we mean, it would be a waste to let swoon-worthy vocals go to waste! Below, scroll through a list of Eun Woo's leading ladies in six of his most memorable projects so far.
Cha Eun Woo's Leading Ladies Throughout the Years
1. Im Soo Hyang
After appearing in a couple of web series (sometimes as a fictionalized version of himself), Eun Woo starred in his first official drama titled Gangnam Beauty. The 2018 show revolved around Kang Mi-rae, a Chemistry student who undergoes plastic surgery after withstanding years of bullying because of her looks. Upon entering college with her new features, she encounters Do Kyung-seok, a former middle school classmate who couldn't care less about outer appearance.
Playing opposite Eun Woo was Im Soo Hyang, who you might also know from Lovers in Bloom and Graceful Family. With its nuanced themes and relatable settings, the show was a hit. The cast and crew even rewarded themselves with a trip to Cebu after its finale!
2. Shin Se Kyung
The following year, Eun Woo strapped on traditional Korean garb as crown prince Yi Rim in Rookie Historian Goo Hae Ryung. The namesake of the show, played by Shin Se Kyung, is, well, an aspiring historian who isn't taken as seriously as she should be because of her womanhood. Hae-ryung becomes Yi Rim's first and only friend, as he's always a lived in solitude as the son of a royal.
At the MBC Drama Awards, both Eun Woo and Se Kyung were recognizerd for their stellar performances, with the latter even getting nominated for the 2019 Grand Prize.
3. Moon Ga Young
We all feel deeper in love with Eun Woo when he played the stoic but charming Lee Su-ho in True Beauty. The 2021 webtoon-based series paired him up with Moon Ga Young a former child actress who's since grown up to be a formidable leading lady. Hwang In Youp joined the mix as a failed idol trainee who has a severed freindship with Eun Woo's character. The show was recently launched on Netflix Philippines, and quickly rose up on its Top 10 TV Shows list.
4. Seo Eun Soo
You could say the heartthrob played to his strengths in 2018 YouTube Premium series Top Management. In unison with Ahn Hyo Seop, Jung Yoo Ahn, and Bang Jae Min, he was part of fictional boyband S.O.U.L. Serving as the quartet's manager was Yoo Eun-sung, played by Dr. Romantic and Itaewon Class actress Seo Eun Soo. A little love triangle forms between her, Eun Woo, and Hyo Seop as they navigate their way into becoming K-pop's next big thing.
5. Lee Da Hee
Have you ever wondered what it would be like to see Eun Woo in a clergyman's attire? If so, direct yourself to Prime Video drama Island, a supernatural thriller offering an ominous view of vacation hotspot Jeju Island. In the show, Eun Woo portrays Yohan, who teams up with Kim Nam Gil's character, Van, to address the mysteries occuring around the locale.
Joining them on their quests is Lee Da Hee as detective Won Mi-ho. Fun fact: Originally slated to play opposite Eun Woo was It's Okay to Not Be Okay star Seo Ye Ji. She was pulled out of the project when her bullying cases arose in early 2021.
6. Park Gyu Young
Later this year, Eun Woo is linking up with Park Gyu Young and Lee Hyun Woo in a fantastical rom-com titled A Good Day to Be a Dog. Based on a webtoon of the same name, the show will revolve around Han Hae-na, a woman who inexplicably turns into a dog when she kisses another person. The only way to reverse the curse is to lock lips with Jin Seo-won, a young man who is deathly afraid of canines. We look forward to seeing these three in action!
