Pageants have always been a double-edged sword for beauty queens. While it offers a platform to showcase their beauty, intelligence, and talent, it also exposes them to scrutiny and criticism. Case in point: Miss Universe Philippines 2022 Celeste Cortesi recently found herself at the receiving end of negative comments concerning her look at the GMA Gala 2023 last Saturday, July 22. Netizens suggested that her lips were "too thick" and that she should "stop using lip fillers."

“You are naturally beautiful. Please stop your lip injections,” says one netizen.

“Lip filler, forehead filler, and what else? You are destroying yourself. Celeste you are beautiful the way you are, kaya ka nga nanalo ng MU diba? People appreciated your original innocent beauty, you don’t need to change it,” another comment reads.

Instead of reacting defensively to the negative comments, Celeste didn't let the criticism faze her. “My response to my bashers. Unbothered ’til the end,” the Miss Universe Philippines titleholder gracefully wrote on her Instagram stories.

However, when a netizen baselessly claimed that she was excluded from the semi-finalists of the Miss Universe 2022 competition due to her “lack of beauty,” Celeste boldly took charge and shut it down once and for all.

Grabe talaga, because I post my photos in public, I am giving you the right to comment? I may not be liked by everyone and that’s totally okay, but by posting my photos and being a public figure I am not giving you the right to be mean and to judge what you don’t know,” she responded.

“What I have been standing for during Miss Universe continues even after my reign and I will never get tired of telling you people to be more kind! Not just to me, but to everyone here. Kindness goes a long way, and maybe if we all learn to be more sensitive and kind, we can all be happier.”
