Everything You Need to Know About the Netflix K-Drama "Celebrity"
The Plot
Touted as a thriller, Celebrity follows Seo A-ri, a once wealthy child whose family falls into great debt. Determined to live a modest life, she gets pulled into the tricky trappings of social media and the lavish influencers that rule the game. The series begins with an already famous A-ri who goes live on her Instagram to expose the truth behind her rise to fame and her supposed death, much to the shock of those that caused her downfall.
The Cast
Park Gyu Young, of It’s Okay to Not Be Okay fame, is Seo A-ri, a hardworking young woman who grows curious about the lives of influencers. Celebrity is her second Netflix original, after the 2020 horror drama Sweet Home. A budding favorite of the streamer, Gyu Young was also recently cast for the second season of Squid Game.
Kang Min Hyuk of South Korean rock band CNBLUE plays opposite Gyu Young as Han juk-kyung, the CEO of a top cosmetics company. Min Hyuk’s other acting credits include How to Be Thirty, Hospital Ship, and The Heirs.
Rounding out the main cast are Lee Chung Ah (VIP, One Dollar Lawyer), Lee Dong Gun (Angel’s Last Mission: Love, Leverage), and Jun Hyo Seong (Introvert Boss). All three of their characters get entangled in a dangerous web of jealousy and deceit, which soon leads to A-ri’s death. Hyo Seong, in particular, plays a vital role in the series as Oh Min-hye, A-ri's high school friend-turned-social media personality, responsible for dragging A-ri into their ranks.
The Cameos
True to its title, Celebrity boasts a bevy of cameos from Korean personalities, including Business Proposal star Seol In Ah, King the Land actor Lee Jun Ho, and K-pop idol and (G)I-dle member Yuqi, among many others.
These cameo appearances from Hallyu celebrities contribute to the immersive and interconnected nature of the K-drama world. They add an extra layer of star power to Celebrity and further enhancesthe viewing experience for fans of Korean pop culture.

The Creatives
At the helm of Celebrity is Kim Chul Gyu, an industry veteran who’s had a hand in directing other popular thrillers like Flower of Evil, Confession, and Mother. Meanwhile, screenwriter Kim Yi Young penned the series. She’s also the mind behind Haechi, Splendid Politics, and Horse Doctor.
