Catriona Gray's family trip to the United Kingdom unfortunately faced a traumatic interruption. It took place in the bustling capital city of London, where she stopped over for lunch before heading out to the airport.

Catriona Gray "Traumatized" Over Being Robbed in London
The 2018 Miss Universe titleholder was taking a vacation with parents Mita and Ian Gray to Scotland, the latter's home country. Together, they explored the beautiful Scottish coasts, castles, and cobblestone-lined villages. This momentous trip marks Catriona's very first time in Scotland, and her father's first-ever return to his homeland since migrating to Australia at the age of 7, way back in 1952. It was in Australia that Catriona was eventually born in 1994.

In a twisted turn of events, the family experienced a blow that no traveler would ever want to face: a robbery. On August 30, Catriona took to Instagram stories to post a photo of a vehicle with its rear window completely smashed in, leaving a gaping hole framed with jagged glass. The trunk was empty.
"Robbed in the middle of London, whilst stopping for lunch on the way to the airport," she wrote. "Our passports and belongings—gone. Traumatized," she wrote, adding a tear-stricken emoji.

Catriona Gray Looks Back on Robbing Incident in London
Two weeks later on September 16, Catriona wrote about the incident and what she hopes tourists like her learn from her experience. In an Instagram post, she says, "Since coming back since the robbery incident, I have a newfound tension when I step outside, a new anxiousness with my surroundings and belongings."
She started out by stating that material belongings are replaceable, and that the safety of oneself and their family is most important. "Don’t place your trust in any paid parking facilities in London city [even if] they boast CCTV cameras, security [and the like]... We made this mistake and we wish we hadn’t. Always take your passports and important medications with you." she detailed.
Ending on a positive note, she thanked everyone who was concerned for her and her parents. "I’m so grateful to everyone who reached out to my parents and I to see if we we were okay," she said. "And to the people who helped my family and I, who helped with [procuring] travel arrangements [and] sourcing a doctor for my dads important medications... Truly am so, so thankful."
In true Catriona fashion, she closed out her caption by declaring how the incident does not mask the good times she and her family had during the trip. "I decided I won’t let the thieves steal that too. Stay safe everyone."
