Theater and TV actress Carla Guevara is beaming with pride as her daughter, Sophia Laforteza, takes the global stage as a member of the sensational girl group KATSEYE.

“I’m so proud of her for achieving all of this on her own. Not once did she mention that she wanted to be a performing artist,” Carla told reporters after KATSEYE’s media conference in Manila on Wednesday.
Carla has always been proud of her 21-year-old daughter for her talent and achievements, including being a straight-A student. So, when she first heard about Sophia’s plans to move to Los Angeles to pursue her realized dream of becoming a global superstar, she encouraged her to “go for it.”
“With all my children, whatever they do in life, as long as they’re making the most out of it… then that’s what’s most important,” said the mom of three.
KATSEYE is a global girl group under HYBE Labels and Geffen Records. The group includes Lara, Yoonchae, Megan, Daniela, Manon, and their Filipino leader, Sophia. They debuted through the survival show The Debut: Dream Academy and released their first EP, SIS (Soft Is Strong), on August 16.
On August 21, Netflix released the documentary Pop Star Academy: KATSEYE, offering a behind-the-scenes look at the training program and survival show that brought the group together.
Carla also mentioned her bond with the moms of the KATSEYE members, who are from different parts of the world. She noted that they set up a WhatsApp group chat to keep in touch since their daughters started this journey together.
“We’re just so proud of our daughters and call each of them our daughters. We made a pact that whichever country they go to, there should always be a mom that’s there,” said Carla.
KATSEYE visited the Philippines from September 17 to 19 as part of their Asia tour, which began in Seoul on September 12. Sophia's homecoming is especially significant because it’s the first time in three years she has seen her dad, chef Godfrey Laforteza, due to her busy debut.
Carla's husband recently posted about their daughter's latest photo together, captioning, "My Best Birthday Gift Eeeevvvvaahhhh this year!"
The supportive parents also attended KATSEYE's fan showcase at Market! Market! in Taguig. They have consistently shared updates about Sophia's remarkable journey and numerous achievements on their Instagram accounts.
If Carla, a singer herself, were to offer a tip for parents with children aspiring to make it in the music industry, it would be this: “Love means supporting and accepting your children 100%. Whatever, whoever they are, that’s how you show your love to your children.”
