TIME Magazine has included the Philippines' tourism gem, Boracay, in its 2022 list of World's Greatest Places, calling it a "paradise reborn" from the pandemic and a widespread cleanup.
Boracay is one of only two Southeast Asian destinations, alongside Bali Indonesia, as among the 50 destinations to explore this year, as world travel cautiously reopens from COVID-19.
TIME cited the six-month clean-up in 2018 that restored the island in the Central Philippines to its old glory. "It took a severe toll on the local economy, but the silver lining was that this 4-sq.-mi. speck in the Visayas island chain had proper time to truly recover," according to the TIME article.
TIME also described Boracay as one of the destinations "charting a path to economic recovery." The international publication said it sought nominations from its correspondents and contributors "with an eye toward those offering new and exciting experiences."
