It's not unusual for couples to share something in common. Whether it's a go-to restaurant, a favorite TV series, or even a matchy tattoo, chances are, you and your signicant other's values and aesthetics are on the same page. For Kapuso love team and real-life sweethearts Bianca Umali and Ruru Madrid, this translates into having the same makeup artist of choice: Thazzia Falek.
We first met Thazzia when Bianca was getting ready for the GMA Gala Night. It was truly evident that they have a one-of-a-kind bond, but it turns out, they're actually quite the trio with Ruru. It didn't always start that way, though; Thazzia reveals that she wasn't privy to the budding romance and Bianca was actually pretty coy about it. "Magugulat nalang ako may kausap siya na tinatawag niyang 'mahal.' So, of course, I’d get curious, diba? So, sumisilip ako until Bianca finally introduced us in one of their calls," the makeup artist looks back.
These days, the three are quite inseparable. Aside from being great friends, Thazzia also appreciates the creative freedom she enjoys with her favorite muses. It turns out they're quite the creative's dream clients, as Ruru and Bianca are never afraid to push boundaries both in fashion and beauty. Describe the first time you met Bianca and Ruru.
"I met Bianca at the look test of an international TV series we were doing together. Si Ru naman, I knew him cause Bianca would be on the phone with Ruru when I’d do her makeup. Magugulat nalang ako may kausap siya na tinatawag nyang 'mahal.' So, of course, I’d get curious, diba? So, sumisilip ako until Bianca finally introduced us in one of their calls."
How did you end up working together?
"The production of the said international series actually got me for Bianca and that's when we started working together. B became my muse because of her undeniable beauty and we started getting really close because of her sweetness and also because we just clicked! We’d do play shoots kasi it’s something we really liked doing together."
"Then for Ru it started sa All-Out Sundays that Ru and B were doing together. Since I was already doing B’s makeup, I told Ru that [I] might as well do his grooming too since he's already there, so might as well, right? I didn’t have a male muse then, and he has such a pretty face kaya I asked him na din. Ruru liked the grooming I did on him and I started to be his makeup artist as well."
How long have you been working together since?
"I think I’ve told this story already, but before we met, Bianca would always do her own makeup. But ever since we worked together in the series back in 2019—bilang lock in taping siya—we formed a special bond and would always do play shoots during our down times. With Ru naman, since 2021 we’d also do play shoots and I’m grateful for B & Ru that they’re always game!"
How has working with Bianca and Ruru impacted your career as a makeup artist?
"It definitely opened new artistic doors for me as a makeup artist. Because both of them are also very creative and open to try new looks! So we get to experiment on makeup a lot."
As their makeup artist, what can you say about their personal style/aesthetic?
"Very playful and each has their own style. They just have fun with it and they can slay any look! And that’s something I really appreciate because it also inspires me to create looks I’ve never done before."
Has your personal relationship developed since you first met? How would you describe Bianca and Ruru as your friends?
"Yes definitely! They’re really like family to me now and I guess that’s why we work so well together kasi we know exactly what we want without even talking about it. For B, she’s very thoughtful and clingy in the sweetest way possible that’s why we call each other girlfriend—we’re both very clingy with each other! She’s a friend that you know will always love you and will fight for you. "
"For Ruru, he is the funniest and most gentleman there is! Very down to earth, too! He's the type of friend that will listen to you for hours if you need someone. I’ve come to know them as these friends that will always be there for you and I'm the same with them. We’re not just here for the good parts, but also for the parts that aren’t so good. Also, there’s no dull moment as long as we’re all together!"
Tell us something interesting about Bianca and Ruru that their fans don’t know.
"Hmmm.. what do their fans don’t know that I know? That they are actually very spontaneous and [that you] can take them anywhere! Oh, here’s a fun fact: Ru takes longer getting ready than B! He has more regimen than B and I!"
