Here's a new discovery about beer that could change your life: an ice-cold brew may be beneficial as a post-workout drink.
According to the International Journal of Sport Nutrition and Exercise Metabolism, light or low ABV beer can rehydrate you after a session. Anything above 4 percent, however, will do more harm than good. Something to keep in mind.
Just how beneficial is a post-workout beer? Well, beer has carbohydrates and sodium—something water does not. Then, there's the fact that beer has polyphenols which maintains the rigour of our immune system.
"Beer has carbohydrates and some sodium where water does not, which could be beneficial post-exercise," said Brad Schoenfeld, Ph.D. to Men's Health. Still, he says "having a six-pack of beer after a workout isn't anything a nutritionist would recommend."
The bottom line is... drinking beer after working out isn't as bad as previously thought. But, it definitely shouldn't be an everyday thing. Do with that information as you please.
