Half-Filipina model and influencer Christina Nadin just launched her apparel brand called Bahay Kubo. According to their website, the label was inspired by Christina's time growing up in the Philippines under the guidance of her mother.

Their lineup of products focuses on "oversized and elevated hair accessories." One of their offerings is the Bahay Scrunchie, which promises to firmly secure even the thickest of locks.

Each scrunchie is made out of 100% mulberry silk (save for the elastic) and has a diameter of 5.5 inches. The brand's tag is stitched onto one side. Aside from tying back one's hair, Bahay Kubo also states that the piece can aid in reducing frizz and breakage.

The Bahay Scrunchie is currently available in four colorways—including an ivory Sampaguita, a brown Cocoa, a dark blue Isla, and a green Buko.
One dollar from every sale is donated to Lokal Lab, a grassroots non-government organization based in Siargao. On Instagram, the brand says that the funds generated will be used to help build an Artisinal Weaving Center, which will train local weavers and provide them livelihood opportunities.

Netizens React to Bahay Kubo's P2000 Scrunchies
Many expressed their support for Christina's newest venture, immediately calling the scrunchie, in particular, "an essential."

There were also a handful of proud Pinoys who were eager to get their hands on the piece.

Bahay Kubo's target market seems to be people with voluminous hair, who would benefit from a scrunchie or headband tying their tresses back. "Looks amazing for someone who has thick and curly hair like myself," one user commented.

However, netizens have had mixed reactions towards Bahay Kubo's flagship product, with some taken aback by its higher-than-usual price tag. Some couldn't help but express their astonishment at the $34 pricing. If you do the math, just one scrunchie would already set someone back nearly P2,000.

"I'm Filipina-American and it would be nice to wear the beautiful scrunchies and support her," one expressed. "I wouldn't mind if it was a little pricey but this is highhh."

Overall, there's an evident number of individuals who feel the pricing is "too high for just a scrunchie." For comparison, there are scrunchies from Filipino brands such as Rags 2 Riches and Common Room that are priced within the P75 to P170 range.
