Filipino pride, once again, takes center stage at the Busan International Film Festival! After Shaina Magdayao hit the red carpet for the Lav Diaz-directed Essential Truths of the Lake, another star is waving the metaphorical Philippine flag–Arjo Atayde, who was nominated for Best Lead Actor alongside Ryu Seung Ryong of the hit K-drama Moving!

The Filipino actor and congressman was in attendance at the prestigious Busan International Film Festival, where he was among the roster of Best Lead Actor nominees at the 2023 Asia Content Awards & Global OTT Awards. The 32-year-old received a nod for his work on ABS-CBN’s Cattleya Killer, a psychological thriller series where he portrays top agent Anton dela Rosa.
During the awarding ceremony held at the Busan Cinema Center in South Korea, the Filipino actor met his fellow nominees, including veteran actor Ryu Seung Ryong, who gained the nomination for his role as Jang Ju-won in the popular Disney+ series Moving.
Aside from the revered Korean actor, Arjo also met co-nominee Nat Kitcharit of Thai series Delete. Among the rest of the Best Lead Actor nominees include Fan Wei of China, Takeru Satoh and Yagira Yuya of Japan.
At the event, Arjo bumped into other familiar faces, like Best Supporting Actress Lim Ji Yeon from The Glory.
Arjo’s mother, actress Sylvia Sanchez, was the picture of a proud mom, as expressed in her Instagram post.
“The first Filipino Actor to be nominated in this prestigious award for #cattleyakilleronprime [emoji],” she wrote. “This is exciting!!!!!!”
While the award eventually went to Ryu Seung Ryong alongside a clean sweep for Moving, we’re all cheers for Arjo, too. Congrats!
