Anne Hathaway is in a perpetual state of booked and busy. Apart from her TV appearances, the actress comes out with a film or two annually, and news of yet another movie booking broke out just recently.
Fans are especially eager for this one, though, with US media outlets touting it as a return to her Devil Wears Prada roots. Titled Mother Mary, the upcoming “epic pop melodrama” sees Anne as a fictional musician. She's on the other side of the sartorial curtain this time around with her character dating an iconic fashion designer, played by Michaela Coel. Fashion, music, and women loving women? Count us in!
FYI, Michaela Coel fronts the Emmy-winning dark-comedy drama I May Destroy You. She also previously starred in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Black Earth Rising, and the Netflix anthology series Black Mirror.
According to Deadline, Mother Mary is being co-produced by A24, the same studio that brought us award-winning triumphs like Everything, Everywhere, All at Once; The Whale; and Lady Bird. At the helm of this project is David Lowery, best known for directing Ain't Them Bodies Saints, Pete’s Dragon, and The Green Knight. He also directed the upcoming Disney live-action adaptation of Peter Pan & Wendy.
If these formidable names aren’t enough to get you excited, viewers can also expect a bangin’ soundtrack to come along with it. Pop star Charli XCX and musician-producer Jack Antonoff are reportedly teaming up to compose original songs for the film. We definitely cant wait to hear what they have in store for Anne Hathaway’s underrated vocal chops.
There’s no news yet of when Mother Mary is coming out in cinemas, but we’ll be sure to keep you posted. In the meantime, you can catch Anne in the psychological thriller movie Eileen, where she plays Rebecca St. John, a glamorous doctor with a sinister secret.
