Growing up is never easy, but imagine doing it under the relentless glare of the spotlight, where every move you make is scrutinized and criticized.
Andrea Brillantes, now a household name in the entertainment industry, has been navigating the challenges of show biz since she was seven years old. As a public figure, every single flaw or mistake gets magnified. Despite all that, she has proven time and again that she's not one to be pushed around.
Below are the many times Andrea was the epitome of a strong and independent woman.
7 Times Andrea Brillantes Proved She's an Empowered Young Woman
1. She's the family breadwinner.
At the tender age of seven, Andrea took her first steps into the entertainment industry, not for fame or luxury, but to ease her family's financial struggles. She embraced the responsibility of being the family breadwinner and worked tirelessly to support her siblings. Her humility and frugality, even after finding success, speak volumes about her character and her unwavering commitment to her family's well-being.
2. She built her family's "dream house" at 17.
Andrea's journey took a significant turn when she secured the role of Marga Mondragon in the hit drama series Kadenang Ginto. Her hard work paid off, allowing her to fulfill her dream of providing her family with a home. "You were my longest (10 years) and most difficult dream to come true. You have always been at the back of my mind since I was young pushing me to work harder. I’m so happy you made it this year with everything that happened, im soooo happy," Andrea wrote in her Instagram post back in 2021.
3. She moved out at 20.
Two years after the construction of her family home, Andrea embarked on a new journey by acquiring her own place at the age of 20. She proudly announced her move on Instagram, marking another milestone in her life. “Just want to give a sneak peek of my new home. I moved out of our family house a couple of months ago,” she wrote in the caption.
4. She started her own cosmetics line.
Andrea is not just an actress but also a savvy entrepreneur. Thanks to her passion for makeup and her determination to pursue her interests and turn them into successful businesses, she was able to establish her very own cosmetics brand: Lucky Beauty. At 20 years old, this makes her the youngest celebrity CEO in the country.
5. She fearlessly responds to haters and slut-shamers.
Andrea doesn't shy away from addressing haters and standing up for herself. She fearlessly called out slut-shamers who criticized her for a photo where her bra was visible. "Guys can wear super low bottoms and kita brief nila but no one would care," she tweeted, fearlessly pointing out the double standards faced by young women. "I am not ashamed. Mas madami pang problema sa mundo na kelangan bigyan ng pansin sa bra ng isang 15-year-old."
She also recently clapped back at netizens that said she was "trying too hard" to get a boyfriend. “It’s also funny kasi ang dami nagsasabi na hanap ako nang hanap, or I’m trying hard. Come on guys, not to be mayabang or anything, but I don’t really need to try. Like, it’s really not that hard for me, just being honest. If I really wanted to date a guy now, edi sana meron na," she confidently responded. "Like what I said in the video," referring to her Date or Pass vlog on Youtube, "I am not looking for anything or anyone right now. I’m happily single and enjoying my youth.”
6. She broke gender norms in relationships.
When it comes to relationships, she's not afraid to make the first move and take charge. Her confidence in pursuing what she wants, whether it's sliding into a guy's DMs or inviting him to prom, is a demonstration of her empowered approach to love.
7. She's just unapologetically herself!
Despite facing bullying and negativity throughout her career, Andrea has learned to cope with it in healthy ways by being unapologetically herself and refusing to change for anyone. Her self-acceptance and ability to let go of the need to please everyone are a testament to her maturity and authenticity.
“So iba rin po ‘pag online. I just got used to it. They don’t really matter because I don’t really know them, and they don’t really know who I am as a person," she said during Star Magic’s Beyond the Stars press conference. “Na-realize ko na you really can’t please everyone. Ayoko pong baguhin 'yung sarili ko para sa kanila and gagawin ko lang ‘yung gusto kong gawin… Masaya po kasi ako sa life ko ngayon so I don’t really care.”
Keep being an inspiration, Andrea!
