The first official teaser of Netflix’s Marilyn Monroe biopic titled Blonde is out. Starring Ana de Armas as the iconic actress Marilyn Monroe, Blonde depicts Monroe during her most formative years, from her rise to fame to her emotional fallout.
Directed by Andrew Dominik, Blonde is based on the historical fiction novel of the same name by Joyce Carol Oates. The book is a dramatized version of Monroe’s life, so the film is expected to follow suit. While there might be grains of truth scattered in the movie, it is not being marketed as a historically accurate biopic of the real Marilyn Monroe.
Blonde has been in development for over a decade, and it looks like the long wait is worth it based on the hypnotizing first teaser trailer. Ana de Armas embodies Monroe’s coquettish persona, all while depicting her emotional turmoil. The trailer mimics the most iconic moments of Monroe’s short life, from her white dress being blown up in The Seven Year Itch to her Diamonds Are a Girl’s Best Friend performance in Gentlemen Prefer Blondes. There’s even a background track of De Armas singing Marilyn’s most iconic songs.
Despite all these stunning renditions and recreations of Monroe’s most memorable moments, the trailer makes it clear that this is no regular biopic. Dark tides await Monroe on her path to fame, and audiences are going to witness the many heartbreaks that almost broke Hollywood’s most tragic star.
