Alex Eala’s journey at the Miami Open was nothing short of remarkable. The athlete started as a wildcard entry but quickly became–as what many dub it–the tournament’s biggest Cinderella story. On her way to the semifinals, she defeated three Grand Slam champions—Jelena Ostapenko in the Round of 64, Madison Keys in the Round of 32, and world No. 2 Iga Swiatek in the quarterfinals.
Against Jessica Pegula, Alex showed grit and determination, even taking a medical timeout for an ankle injury early in the second set. Despite pushing the match to a deciding third set, Jessica’s experience ultimately secured her the victory, setting up a final showdown against Aryna Sabalenka.
