Everything You Need to Know About the Upcoming Netflix K-Drama “A Time Called You”

Korean dramas set in the nostalgic ‘90s have a special place in our hearts. Oftentimes they’re accompanied by an aura of youthful wonder, melancholia, and heartbreak, a la Twenty-Five Twenty-One and 20th Century Girl. A Time Called You, the newest Netflix original on our watch list, fits the bill perfectly, with an added layer of time travel to boot. The Plot

A Time Called You is based on the 2019 Taiwanese drama Someday or One Day. The Korean remake follows the grieving Han Jun-hee in 2023, an office worker still distraught by her boyfriend’s death a year ago. Missing Gu Yeon-jun deeply, Jun-hee listens to a cassette tape he left behind, after which she’s magically transported to 1998. Here, she meets Nam Si-heon, a high school student who bears a striking resemblance to Yeon-jun. Jun-hee, meanwhile, has taken over the body of Si-heon’s friend Kwon Min-ju. Seemingly reunited with her great love, she takes this opportunity as Min-ju to spend time with Si-heon. But she’s soon reminded that this reality is no longer her own when she encounters an accident that threatens Min-ju’s life.

The Cast

Vincenzo star Jeon Yeo Bin takes on two personas as both Jun-hee and later on Min-ju. Talking about her role, Yeo Bin expressed, “The gazes, actions, and reactions of Min-ju and Jun-hee toward Yeon-jun and Si-heon are different, so I developed the characters while relying on my co-star a lot.” A Time Called You marks Yeo Bin’s second Netflix original after the sci-fi mystery series Glitch.

Ahn Hyo Seop (Business Proposal, Dr. Romantic 3) plays opposite Yeo Bin as Yeon-jun and Si-heon, two different people both deprived of the girl they love. In 2023, Yeon-jun had planned to propose to Jun-hee before the accident that took his life. In 1998, Si-heon suppresses his growing feelings for Min-ju, knowing his best friend harbors an unrequited crush on her. 

The best friend in question is portrayed by Kang Hoon, whom you might recognize from Little Women and his cameo appearance in Twenty-Five Twenty-One. In this drama, he plays In-gyu, the last piece of the love triangle. As per Kang Hoon, In-gyu “may appear weak on the outside” but he’s actually a “rational, calm, and thoughtful character.” 

The Creatives

Director Kim Jin Won heads A Time Called You. His most recent projects include My Country: The New Age and Rain or Shine. Viewers are also looking forward to the show’s soundtrack, which includes K-pop girl group New Jeans. As per reports, their OST for the drama will be a remake of a 1996 song titled Beautiful Restriction. You can get a preview of the track from the trailer below.
