I admit that I feel partial to trends that feature food names in them: strawberry makeup, tomato girl, latte makeup, glazed donut skin, and milk tea hair. I love all of them and casually try to adapt them to my current aesthetic. Although there is some debate about renaming these trends that already exist, I'm fine with these reinventions. Let people enjoy things. Humans crave novelty so baptizing certain looks as something else is the way for current generations to own their versions of it.

One particular food-meets-beauty trend I'm all for right now is the mochi skin trend. This Japanese obsession has been around for quite some time so it's nothing new. But in case you're still not familiar with it, here's a quick beauty lesson.
What's mochi skin?
Like the well-loved rice cake mochi, this Japanese skincare trend aims to achieve soft, supple, and bouncy skin. This is opposite the dewy "glass skin" trend that originated in Korea. Mochi skin is all about having a matte, velvety finish, and bright complexion. The result looks like "cloud skin," aka a soft and matte finish. It's more attainable than achieving a dewy translucent complexion. Glass skin probably requires good genetics, but mochi skin is about having a healthy (not perfect!) complexion.
How do I get mochi skin?
The number one factor in achieving mochi skin is getting your complexion to feel super soft and supple. You need to focus on hydrating and moisturizing your complexion with the use of skincare products made for your skin type. In case you're wondering, oily skin can still benefit from using moisturizers. Simply go for a gel-type formula to avoid that greasy clogged texture other rich moisturizers may give.

For those who want to instantly score mochi skin, you can try this foundation balm. This product melts like cream on the skin and dries like powder. The result is a velvety finish without looking like a mask. You still see your skin texture, only better.
