It's no secret that fragrances can have an evocative effect. One whiff can make you relive a precious memory from the past, no matter how long ago it was. But they also have the ability to transport you to places and times that you may have never experienced before. Case in point: Jo Malone London’s Cologne Intense collection.
With the brand’s fragrances being mostly inspired by British traditions and ingredients, Cologne Intense was Jo Malone London’s attempt to further widen their fragrance portfolio by traveling to different parts of the world and turning those foreign experiences into unique scents. The collection began 10 years ago when Oud & Bergamot was released, a scent said to be inspired by the Middle East.
Now featuring new and improved packaging, the Cologne Intense lineup already boasts of eight different scents using rare and rich ingredients found all over the globe. “It could be Indian jasmine sambac, vanilla from Madagascar, or myrrh from the Namib desert,” says Céline Roux, Jo Malone London’s Global Head of Fragrance.

Though each fragrance highlights different key ingredients, they all have an intensely sensual and intoxicating characteristic to them. There's also that theme of nature, from the woody scents of oud and myrrh to the light florals of jasmine and tuberose. These are all reflected not only in the repackaging of the bottles but with the in-store displays, which aim to elevate the experience of Cologne Intense even further. Céline also talks about how although the fragrances in this collection are much richer than any of their other scents, they still made sure to incorporate the brand's DNA into each distinct fragrance.
1. Oud & Bergamot
Oud is one of the oldest raw ingredients in perfumery and it also happens to be one of the most expensive. Dubbed the “wood of the Gods,” oud radiates a clean musky aroma. Combined with the refreshing scent of bergamot, you get a bright amber fragrance that is both hypnotic and alluring.

2. Jasmine Sambac & Marigold
Jasmine is nothing new in perfumery, but what makes this particular fragrance special is the type of jasmine Jo Malone used. Introducing Jasmine Sambac a.k.a. the “queen of all jasmines,” a white flower native to India that is commonly used in cultural rituals. It gives off this enticing, light floral smell, which is then contrasted by the subtle musk of marigold and enveloped in the sweet warmth of vanilla and amber.

3. Cypress & Grapevine

5. Velvet Rose & Oud
