Met Gala, Jennie Kim’s in your area! This year, the Blackpink star made her much-awaited debut at fashion’s biggest night. In line with the theme “Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty,” Jennie’s chosen ensemble was an archival Chanel piece from the designer’s 1990 collection.
But her dress wasn’t the only homage Jennie offered that night. In a recent video, the singer revealed that her hairstyle was actually inspired by Korean culture.
LOOK: BLACKPINK Jennie’s Hairstyle Was Inspired by Traditional Korean Culture
The star divulged the tidbit in a “Get Ready with Me” video in preparation for her Met Gala 2023 appearance. After glamming up, Jennie, dressed in a pink robe, explained the decision behind her beauty look.
“For my makeup, we wanted to do these different shades of pink and a mixture of different colors,” she described. The star disclosed that she and her team opted for a more matte look, while her lids were applied with a dab of whimsical sparkles.
Meanwhile, her hairstyle came with significant meaning. According to Jennie, the braided details at the top of her hair were a tribute to Korean culture and her heritage. This likely takes cues from the styles of Korea’s ancient Joseon Dynasty, where women braided their tresses based on their age, and societal and civil status.
For her accessory, Jennie topped her braided hair with a white camellia as an homage to Karl and the flower synonymous to Chanel since 1913.
Gorgeous as always, Jennie!
