Trust Jung Ho Yeon to put her roots front and center on the red carpet!
The Squid Game actress made her way to the 74th Primetime Emmy Awards dressed in her usual best, this time with a geometric Louis Vuitton dress as her armor of choice. But the model may have stolen the show with her hair accessory of the night–which, fun fact, is actually a piece of Korean cultural history!
With her hair styled in a short Tinseltown-ready wavy bob, Ho Yeon opted to fuse her influences and cultural roots with a floral hairpin at the center of her part. This could certainly be an homage to Korea’s Joseon-era baetssi daenggi, a small piece of ornament placed on top of a woman’s parted hair, an accessory usually worn by young girls before marriage.
Of course, this isn’t the first time that Hoyeon took cues from Korean history for her styling. Earlier this year, the actress attended the 28th Annual Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards in a beautiful single braid tied with a daenggi hair ribbon, complementing her dress with its embroidered detailing.
Ho Yeon was nominated for the Emmys’ Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series for Squid Game, which was ultimately honored to Julia Garner for Ozark. Still, from what we can see, Ho Yeon continues to be a winner in the fashion department!
