Gel manicured nails have been our go-to ever since it was introduced to us. It stays chip-free for weeks so it helps us look more put-together without worrying about upkeep. The only drawback is that gel manicures (and acrylics) leave the nails brittle and thin. Thankfully, we discovered a cool DIY nail treatment that can rehab our poor, poor nails. Enter: Hot oil manicures.
What's a hot oil manicure?
Refinery29 reports that a hot oil manicure is a treatment we can try to repair brittle nails. The best part is that you can do this at home! You don't need fancy stuff—it only calls for cuticle oil and hand cream.
Just like hot oil for hair, it involves soaking the nails in an intense treatment. People slather a thick layer of hand cream on their nails, put on gloves, and dip their hands in hot water. Some prefer to submerge their brittle nails in a bowl of heated essential oils. It really depends on your preference and the availability of products you have at home.
How to get a hot oil manicure?
Doing a hot nail manicure at home is pretty easy. The original method is to pour a mix of essential oils like jojoba and avocado in a bowl and soak our nails in it, but not all of us have access to that many oils. Here's a version you can try at home.
1. Use a soft nail buffer to gently smooth out the surface of your nails. This allows all the goodness of the hand care products to be absorbed by your nails.
2. Apply a thick layer of nourishing hand cream all over your nails and gently rub it in.

3. Wear gloves and submerge your hands in hot water for a few minutes.
4. Finish by applying a generous amount of cuticle oil or nail serum onto your nails.
