I think we can all agree that what we put out on social media is just a fragment of who we truly are. We edit, filter, and curate the photos that we upload on our feeds because reality is rarely as beautiful or as aesthetically pleasing as we romanticize it to be. Case in point: Coleen Garcia opened up about the realities of what she’s really like when she isn’t in front of the camera—and she dropped some hard truths.
LOOK: Coleen Garcia Gets Real About Life Outside of Social Media
Actress-model Coleen Garcia recently shared photos of herself on her Instagram stories, comparing what people think she looks like at home versus what she really looks like when she isn’t all dressed up and posing for the camera.

In the first photo, she’s dressed in a dainty cream frock and lightly made up with a barely-there beauty look. She captioned it, “What you think I look like at home.” This was followed by a second, more realistic, photo of what she looks like behind social media—her hair in a messy bun, with no makeup, and wearing a sports bra. “But actually… sometimes I look like this.”

The actress was completely blunt when describing how she looked. “I look sick. I look pale. I look depressed. My hair’s a frizzy mess, [especially] in this insane heat.”
Her fans, who are used to seeing Coleen on TV, would probably assume that she’s going through some bouts with depression or stress, but the actress clarified matter-of-factly: “No, it’s not cause of bisyo. It’s not cause of unbearable stress or marital problems or depression. It’s because I’m human. We all are. I break out, I get tired, I am getting older every day.”
She continued, “Anyone can bash, judge, and speculate. Or we can lessen that and make it safer for people to be unapologetically authentic. Cause no one should ever have to feel like they need to put on a mask just to be accepted.” And we couldn’t agree more.
In this digital age, there’s an unspoken pressure for us to look a certain way. Imagine being an actress like Coleen whose life is broadcast to millions of people daily. She has undoubtedly had her fair share of criticisms, unsolicited opinions, and comments from netizens and so-called “fans” whenever she doesn’t meet their expectations.
She reminds her followers: “Showbiz is a switch that we turn on until we get to shed the makeup, the hair extensions, and the pretensions and just be.”

Calling out the people who are often quick to judge, she wrote, "We complain [about] how everything on social media is so fake and filtered, and then in the same breath, we bash what’s real when we feel like it’s not pretty enough for us."
FYI, this isn’t the first time Coleen Garcia got real about her off-screen life. After giving birth, she shared a raw photo of her body post-pregnancy, flaunting her stretch marks and talking about how it helped her gain more love and respect for herself and her body. “I see myself in a whole new light. It’s been an incredible journey of self-love and acceptance.”
