Breastfeeding, an inherently natural and often fulfilling aspect of motherhood, unfortunately grapples with persistent societal stigmas. These challenges stem from cultural constructs, societal norms, the sexualization of breasts, and a pervasive lack of comprehensive education and support. Despite the well-documented health advantages associated with breastfeeding, it remains burdened by unwarranted negative perceptions.
All things considered, it’s about time we normalize breastfeeding. After all, moms deserve to feel at ease doing what their bodies are simply wired to do. Here are some celebrity moms who, despite facing challenges with breastfeeding, are courageously leading by example.
Local Celebrity Moms Who Are Normalizing Breastfeeding
1. Angelica Panganiban
Angelica Panganiban gave birth to her first child with partner Gregg Homan in September last year. She recently uploaded a post talking about her breastfeeding journey admitting that it was one of the hardest stages of motherhood but also the most fulfilling.
“After a week of breastfeeding, muntik na ko sumuko,” she said, but thanks to the help of the people around her she was able to push through. “Sa mga panahon na duguan at puyat na puyat na ko. Salamat sa inyo… Nagmamahal, inang may paltos, inang puyat, inang hawak ng anak ang oras. Pero inang masaya at kilig na kilig sa tuwing hinahanap ng anak.”
2. Coleen Garcia
In a vlog with Karen Davila, Coleen Garcia discussed how older generations are often more conservative when it comes to breastfeeding. It’s not common for them to talk about it openly, but the millennial mom has different views and has no problem talking about or posting photos of herself doing it in public. “I really want to normalize it,” she says.
She even had the funniest caption to one of her photos. She jokingly wrote, “Part-time human, full-time baby buffet.” LOL!
3. Iya Villiana
Motherhood is also a full-time job, so imagine being a working mom with a newborn baby. When Iya Villiana was only beginning her journey into motherhood, she would bring her baby to work and breastfeed them while getting glammed up. Here's a throwback photo of her with her first-born, Antonio Primo.
4. Isabelle Daza
Whether it’s at home, by the pool, at the beach, or in the market, OG it girl Isabelle Daza has no problem breastfeeding in public. After all, she’s just making sure her babies get the nutrition they need.
5. Camille Prats
Camille Prats is the proud mom of four children. She shared in one of her blogs on breastfeeding the many difficulties she faced with her son Nathan and then again with her daughter Nala, but despite her challenging breastfeeding journey, it was also super rewarding according to her.
“Breastfeeding my baby is truly a wonderful journey. Aside from being able to give my baby the best there is, it's the bond we both share is what I treasure the most. The way she looks at me and smiles happily while she feeds, that look of satisfaction only you can provide,” she wrote.
6. Jolina Magdangal
Jolina Magdangal was already set on breastfeeding even before she was married. She mentioned that it was her former co-hosts Suzi Entrata and Lyn Ching that inspired her decision. That’s why the moment she got pregnant and gave birth to her two kids she was eager and determined to breastfeed both of them. She even made it her advocacy to encourage (but never force) fellow moms to breastfeed, too.
7. Bianca Gonzalez
Bianca Gonzalez now has two kids, Lucia and Carmen, and although the two girls are all grown up, Bianca has been very vocal about her breastfeeding journey when they were smaller.
8. Kylie Padilla
One of the main reasons Kylie Padilla decided to delay her showbiz comeback after giving birth was to make sure she could breastfeed her sons Alas and Axl. She was able to breastfeed both her kids for over a year and even said that it was one of her favorite parts of motherhood. “The eye contact, the skin-to-skin, the slowly watching my kids fall asleep and feeling their heartbeat slow is the closest physical feeling of love I’ve ever experienced," she said.
9. Saab Magalona
Saab Magalona gave birth to her eldest child Pancho back in 2018. She previously shared on an Instagram post the difficulties she faced while trying to breastfeed that even led her to the ER. But despite the hardships and pain she faced, Saab is still a firm believer that breast is best.
10. Solenn Heusaff
At this point, it’s clear that breastfeeding is no easy feat. Every mother has their challenges and hurdles when it comes to breastfeeding their children and Solenn Heusaff also wasn’t spared. But just like every other mom who advocates and continues to try and normalize breastfeeding, she pushed through the hardships.“The bond is greater than any you will ever encounter. Whether you are breastfeeding one week or three years, these moments are everything,” she said.
