If I had to choose to live with only one makeup product in my bag, it’d have to be blush. ICYDK, blush is one of the oldest cosmetics, tracing back to as early as ancient Egypt. Records show that they would use a mix of red soil and animal fat to tint their cheeks, others would use crushed bugs or berries. These days, we’re spoiled for choice when it comes to blush products. We have everything from powder, cream, and liquid forms of rouge in hues of orange, pink, and purple, all to help us achieve the flattering flush. Which leads us to ask: How much blush is enough for the “perfect rosy glow”?
On TikTok, a new beauty phenomenon is on the rise. Netizens have coined it blush blindness, but what exactly is it and how do you know if you’re suffering from it?
What Is Blush Blindness?
Lately, there has been a growing love and obsession for blush products. A plethora of blush application techniques are being introduced on social media as well. This has led to many bold blush looks, making people less afraid of adding color to their faces. So much so that, at times, they’re putting on “too much” blush without knowing—an experience most of us have probably been through before.
This act of putting on too much blush without realizing how strong the pigment appears on the face is known as “blush blindness.” Netizens on Tiktok are calling out users who are suffering from said blindness—including themselves. “I was a victim of blush blindness,” wrote Tiktok user Celine Blumenthal.
However, “blush blindness” is still very much subjective. While some consider themselves a “victim” of the said trend, others have no problem sporting bright hues on their cheeks and actually enjoy “overblushing.” Others also referenced singer Sabrina Carpenter, who has made bubblegum pink cheeks her signature look, saying, “If Sabrina Carpenter is blush blind so am I.”

Pinay model Maureen Wroblewitz also posted a video on her Tiktok account with the text, “pov: you have blush blindness,” as she liberally buffed her blush onto her cheeks and eyelids.
So what do you think? Do you know anyone with blush blindness, too?
