One of the most challenging parts of being a curly-haired girl in an Asian country is that curl-friendly products aren’t as easily accessible. Most hair products marketed are catered to the straight-haired majority. And while advertisements will have you believe that these products work the same for textured hair, most of the time–they don’t.
Thankfully, more curly-haired groups and communities are being formed online, creating forums and threads on the best ways and products to help get your curls, coils, and waves in the healthiest, bounciest condition they can be.
Preview recently got the chance to chat with professional hairstylist Lourd Ramos, CEO of Creations Salon, who shared his top five curly hair care product recommendations. FYI, Lourd is one of the go-to hairstylists when it comes to cutting and styling curly hair. He’s constantly being raved about by fellow curly girls in articles and Reddit communities, so you know he’s got the CG stamp of approval!

Tresemme Keratin Smooth Anti-Frizz Shine Serum
Frizz and dryness are a curly girl's worst enemy, but Tresemme's Keratin Smooth Serum has your back. “It’s designed to tame unruly hair, keeps the hair frizz-free, and gives moisture and shine,” says Lourd. After taking a shower and with damp hair, start by dispensing one pump into the palm of your hand, and rub the product in between your hands before applying it from the mid-lengths to the ends of your hair. Feel free to add more product as needed for the length of your hair. Make sure to really get it on your ends as these tend to be the driest part of the hair!

Nanny Rose Gugo & Lawat Shampoo and Conditioner
Need a Curly Girl Method-approved shampoo and conditioner? Lourd recommends Nanny Rose Gugo & Lawat. According to him, it's “organic and soft, caring for the hair inside out.” The best part? It's anti-hair fall, too!

Naturals Ws Coffee Toner, Shampoo, and Conditioner
While Lourd admits that all of the products under Watsons Naturals are curl-friendly, he favors the coffee line the most. ICYDK, the caffeine in coffee does more than just keep you awake. When used on your hair, the antioxidants present in the caffeine can help protect the hair and scalp from environmental damage, such as UV rays and pollution. “It brings moisture and shine, and [protects] the hair from free radicals,” says Lourd.
