Ask anyone here at the Preview HQ, and they'll say that the Beauty Awards season is one of the busiest times of the year. It's when everyone in the team comes together to talk about our beauty favorites from the year that was. It's a great way to discover new products that are worth your while since they come highly recommended by editors and beauty industry experts.

"The Preview Beauty Awards is an annual curated beauty list featuring the best of the products and services that we've tried for the year," Preview Editor-in-Chief Marj Ramos-Clemente explained in a special episode of The Making Of. "The winners—we really do use them ourselves."

Preview's Editorial Assistant for Beauty Isha Fojas, who was also the main producer for the initiative, shared more insights on how the winners were determined. "We wanted to make our selections as diverse as possible, so we had picks that range from accessible and affordable to mid-range and luxury," she said. "Because in the end, that's what beauty is about. It's for everyone, and everyone has different needs." This was further exemplified when the shortlisted products went for final testing with different members of the team.

Apart from the selection and review process, the production of the visuals was another equally exciting component. "We wanted to make [the creative direction for this year's Beauty Awards] very minimal and very straightforward, really focusing on the products," said Preview's Associate Multimedia Director Jana Jodloman, who spearheaded the shoot's creative direction.

As for the photos' look and feel, you would be right to notice that it resembled elements from the 2024 Preview Ball. "We wanted a lot of skin, kind of related to the theme of this year's ball," Jana added. Aside from aesthetic purposes, the tie-in goes a lot deeper.
"We wanted to highlight how one's beauty is already innate. The products and the procedures we featured were meant to highlight one's skin," she explained. "So our skin is like a canvas and all the products and the procedures that we apply to it are like paintbrushes that are meant not to transform it entirely, but to bring out the best of the skin that they're already in."

To bring this vision to life, Tetel Angeles and Iza Tando of Team Muriel Vega Perez applied clean, minimalist makeup on Luminary Models' Brea Umali and Martha Andre so as to keep the spotlight on the Beauty Awards winners. Photographer Yel Dela Paz' artistic eye made sure to capture the seamless incorporation of body and products in the final photos.
