Andi Eigenmann's body is not the same as it was from when she was a 21-year-old ingenue, and that's completely normal. Motherhood comes with its peaks and valleys, and a setback Andi wanted to bounce back from was the weight gain she experienced post-pregnancy.
Recently, she took to Instagram to share how she shed off the 175 lbs she gained after birthing her youngest child, Koa. From March to November 2021, Andi took on various physical activities that helped burn calories and made her feel happy and healthy.
Andi recalls feeling "much more pressure to look a certain way" back when she first gave birth in 2011. This led her to neglecting a healthy lifestyle that she, thankfully, rediscovered after bearing all three of her children. She tells Preview that she needed to adopt "a more consistently active lifestyle when [she] gained 'a bit too much' weight during pregnancy."
"[After] the second and third time [giving birth], I felt more secure of myself. I was in a better place mentally, emotionally, and physically," she expresses. The mom of three says that, with every child, she grew more and more conscious about what she needed to do if ever she felt the need to shed off her postpartum weight.
Andi's routine consisted of sweat-breaking activities that she found "sustainable," and most importantly, fun. This included practicing yoga, boxing, doing HIIT workouts, and even trying her hand at basketball and surfing (which, with her beachside home in Siargao, would be a waste not to try.)
Aside from those, Andi shares that she, "recently developed a new love for running, and rekindled some love for [her] old favorite sport, which is inline skating."
She also opened up about suffering from diastasis recti, or abdominal seperation, due to her pregnancies, and how doing pilates proved to be a helpful regimen to it. Andi is thankful for how supportive her family has been with this endeavor of hers, so much so that they would even join her workouts sometimes.
"It's all about the proper mindset. If you are doing it for the right reasons, you'll get there," Andi states. She advises anyone who wants to "get back in shape" to manage their expectations. "Our body can really change as we get older, it's natural. Set realistic standards when it comes to your personal fitness goals." She further says, "Trust me, you'll be happy with where [your body] will take you after all the hard work and love you put into it."
At the end of the day, Andi gets out of bed and keeps moving for herself. "I love the way I felt about myself when I was at my fittest," adding that, "more than anything, my personal fitness goals are about regaining that holistically happy and healthy feeling."
It may take some time to get back in the groove of things and to finally feel great about yourself, but in Andi's book, achieving your personal goals certainly makes everything worth it. Way to go, Andi!
