By now, the power of K-beauty is no longer a secret thanks to their iconic 10-step skin care routine along with the rest of their serums, face masks and power beauty products. But when it comes to the skin care game, the Koreans aren’t the only skin care gurus of the East because guess what, the Chinese got game, too!
Chinese Skin Care Routine
Old Chinese skin practices are heavily reliant on natural ingredients and tools in traditional medicine. So from tea leaves to the Chinese’s answer to Korea’s snail extract, check out the ancient Chinese skin care tips you need to try STAT!
1. Tea will save the day.
It’s no secret that the Chinese love their tea as much as the Germans love their beer. And who can blame them? Not only does tea detoxify the body, it can give your immune system a quick healthy boost, improving your skin in the process! Want to beat the early signs of aging? Drink your green tea regularly then. Need clearer skin? Goji berry tea is the key.
2. FYI, rice isn’t just for your belly!
The French swear by the micellar water to achieve flawless complexion but the Chinese, they rely on rice water to do the trick. Ditch your usual toner and make your own rice water as a quick and effective replacement. Just soak unpolished rice in water and wait for it to turn milky white. Dip a cotton pad in your rice water and massage your face gently.
3. Use a jade roller.
Not only does it serve as a great accessory to your vanity, the Chinese swear by the jade roller for instant great skin, too! De-puffing skin and fighting natural aging are just some of the perks this nifty beauty claims to do.
4. Try acupuncture.
Acupuncture is an age-old Chinese remedy to manage migraine, reduce inflammation, and even regulate hormones, which in turn contributes to healthier skin. Belo Medical Group says that acupuncture can combat skin aging, create tighter skin and even improve one’s energy.
5. Stock up on the Chinese’s go-to skin care secret.
If the Koreans have the snail slime, the Chinese has the mung beans. It’s great for de-puffing one’s skin and for treating acne, too! Rumor has it that China’s Empress Wu maintained her healthy, glowing skin up to the age of 80 (!!!) by using a face mask with mung beans.
