From classic updos to face-framing layers, here are all our favorite hair trends from this year!

Hair trends, like fashion trends, influence and define how we express ourselves. 2022 was full of unexpected hair trends—some new, others a revival of iconic ‘dos from the past—but one thing’s for sure: They were bold. We really pushed ourselves this year to try more daring and experimental hairstyles, and we can’t wait to see more this coming 2023! But before we move on to the new year, why don’t we look back at some of the hair trends that dominated the past year?

Ahead are some of our favorite hair trends from 2022. Which of these 'dos did you try this past year?

LOOK: 10 Best Hair Trends We Loved in 2022, As Seen on Celebs

1. Face-framing Layers

2022 was definitely the year of face-framing layers. Case in point: the butterfly haircut, the hime haircut, the u-shaped haircut, and the shag. Here's how Jinkee Pacquiao wore the layered hair trend.

2. Long Curls

This year was all about embracing our natural features and that meant curls were in! Celebrities such as Yassi Pressman have been showing off more of their naturally curly locks. Other celebrities such as Sarah Geronimo and Kathryn Bernardo have also been spotted curling their tresses for photo shoots and we’re totally loving it.

3. Spiky Bun

Of all the Y2K hair trends to make a comeback, the spiky bun is definitely at the top of our most-loved list this year, and it’s probably one of your favorites, too. It just screams early 2000s and it’s so easy to pull off! We’ve seen tons of celebrities, such as Catriona Gray, rocking this edgy look and we hope it won’t die down just yet.

4. The Barbie Ponytail

Inspired by the doll’s sleek high-pony and signature flicked ends, the Barbie ponytail is another hairstyle we absolutely adored in 2022. This trend was brought about by the excitement surrounding Greta Gerwig’s new Barbie movie. And since the movie is still set to show in July 2023, we have a feeling this hair trend, together with the Barbiecore aesthetic will stick around a bit longer. Doesn't Ivana Alawi look absolutley adorable with this hairstyle?

5. The Messy Updo

Combine the voluminous beehive with a classic updo and you get this iconic hairstyle, seen on Maris Racal, reminiscent of Brigitte Bardot or Pamela Anderson. Both icons were known for their big, messy ‘dos and tendrils that gave their looks a softer, feminine touch. You can still spot this look on runways, red carpets, and in magazines being worn by different celebrities and it-girls of today.

6. Bangs

We all have a love-hate relationship with bangs. There are years when there are no bangs in sight and years when we're all rocking them. 2022 just happens to be one of those years where bangs are big again. We're talking full bangs, choppy bangs, curtain bangs, side swept bangs, wispy bangs, and even microbangs. Bea Alonzo's sheer bangs definitely suit her.

7. Bob Cut

Bob cuts will never go out of style. It’s a versatile hairdo that you can wear in different lengths, from lobs to French bobs, as seen on Anne Curtis below. We wouldn’t be too surprised if we continue seeing this look well into 2023.

8. Waist-Long Hair

Waist-long sleek hair evocative of '70s Cher is also making a comeback. It may seem simple, but the dramatic length makes for an elegant look. Here's Maymay Entrata donning the look for one of her performances.

9. Deep Side-Part

Although center-part hair is still trendy, the deep side-part hair surely took the reigns this 2022. The hairstyle, as seen below on Kaila Estrada and Raiza Contawi ,goes to show that less really is more. The extra sleekness of the hairstyle not only helps soften the features but also glams up any outfit.

10. Hair Tendrils

Hair tendrils is another throwback from the '00s that seems like it's here to stay. It's a simple way to frame your face without having to fully commit to a fringe. Kylie Verzosa is often seen wearing this hairtrend. She just leaves two long frontal strands and it instantly helps to elongate and slim down her face.
